Golf  Nintendo1986Nintendo GOLF lets you choose your clubs, change your stance, control your swings - even select the angle of impact! You'll view the hole from both close up and far away, judge the changing conditions of the green, and measure the wind velocity. But watch out! When the wind changes, so does the flight of your ball. With Nintendo's state-of-the-art graphics and realistic game play, you'll really believe you're on the fairways. So play Nintendo GOLF, because there's not a video golf game on par with it anywhere!***As with most of the initial Famicom Disk System launch titles, Golf is just a copy of the older cartridge version. The right side of the screen shows the complete course, the left side is divided between a stats menu and a representation of the golf player. Hitting the ball is done via the typical three-click method. The game is playable but lacks interesting game modes like tournament play or more than only one 18-hole course. labelimagesubject
Famicom Golf: Japan Course  Nintendo1987"Famicom Golf: Japan Course" plays very similar to Nintendo's own early [game=#7834]Golf[/game]. Graphics are a little bit better, but still only a single 18-hole course. Although it plays well and doesn't leave the standard top-down golf game formula, I think this is a bit less impressive for a 1987 game than [game=#7834]Golf[/game] was in 1984. labelimageminimize
Pro Golfer Saru: Kage no Tournament  Bandai (Tose)1987A golf game based on a manga and anime series. I don't know the series myself, but having read about it, it must be some of the weirder stuff. The game isn't realistic and doesn't try to be realistic like most other golf games. The courses take place in a mountaineous region, as well as a city and they have obstacles like bottomless pits and whirlwinds. The number of clubs are much more limited than in other golf games. So on the one hand the gameplay is simpler, on the other hand the obstacles make it more difficult. You can however control the ball a bit when its in the air. I don't mind strange ideas in games, especially not golf games, because they are very similar otherwise. But there is no real goal in this game except beating your high score. I couldn't find a story or tournament mode. There is nothing that would bring me back after playing all 18 holes once. labelimageminimize
Famicom Golf: US Course  Nintendo (HAL Laboratory)1987"Famicom Golf: US Course" is the follow-up game of [game=#181077]Famicom Golf: Japan Course[/game]. At first I thought this would be just another course with identical gameplay, but US Course changed the main perspective from top-down view to third-person view. That makes for better graphics but also harder playability, because the way the graphics are you don't have much clue how to hit the ball and where it will land. The initial direction of the shot is still planned in a short top-down view scene. And still Nintendo's golf games feature only 18 holes, which isn't terribly much. All in all this game looks better than earlier golf games but plays more complicated. Best example is the fact that it took me a couple of minutes until I found out how to do a simple thing like switching clubs. labelimageminimize
